Getting to Castlecroft by Car :
Attention GPS and map users:
A few years ago, Ballengeich Road was re-aligned. The lower end of Ballengeich Road now
starts 100 yards to the right (looking towards the castle) from where it
formerly started - on the other side of the roundabout. Your GPS or
map might send you into the new road barrier!!
From Motorway M9, Junction 10:
On exiting at Junction 10, follow the
brown "Striling Castle" direction signs. When you reach the
roundabout at the foot of the Castle hill, take the second exit,
towards Stirling Castle. Just 20 yards past this roundabout, turn left up
Ballengeich Road towards the castle. After about 400 yards, turn right
into the signed Castlecroft driveway.
From the South, Edinburgh or Glasgow on the M9 motorway:
Exit the motorway at Junction 10.
(Ignore the sign at Junction 9 suggesting that leads to all Stirling
destinations). See above for directions from Junction 10.
You can see Castlecroft from the motorway. As you
approach Junction 10, you will see Stirling Castle perched on the castle
hill on your right. At the left end of the castle hill, about 1/4 of the
way up the hill, is a cluster of 4 white houses. Castlecroft is the top
one, closest to the castle.
From Callander and beyond - Oban, Glencoe, Fort William, etc.: using the
A84.
Approach Stirling on the A84. This road
crosses the M9 motorway at Junction 10. See above for directions from
Junction 10.
From the M9 north - Dublane, Perth
Exit the M9 at Junction 10. See above for
directions from Junction 10.
From Loch Lomond and north Glasgow using the A811.
The second sight of Stirling entering
on the A811 is the Castle perched atop the castle hill (the first is The
Wallace Monument). A bit closer, you can see a small cluster of 4 white houses
to the lower left of the castle. Castlecroft is the top house, closest to the
castle. About 300 yards from the foot of the castle hill, the A811 encounters
the first, small, roundabout (due for enlarging very soon). Take the first
exit (a left turn) here. Now the castle is perched spectacularly on your
right. Take the first right turn, signposted Ballengeich Road, just before
the next roundabout. Turn right into the signed Castlecroft driveway about
400 yards up the hill.
From the A91 - St Andrews, Kinross, Dollar:
At the first roundabout approaching
Stirling, take the first exit towards "Stirling A91" (observe the
Wallace Monument on the hilltop to your right). At the next roundabout, take
the third exit towards "Bridge of Allan A907" (the Wallace Monument
will still be on your right). At the next roundabout, take the first exit
towards "Stirling A9". Pass the Esso Station, pass under a rail
bridge, and pass over Stirling Bridge. At the next roundabout, take the fourth
exit, towards "Perth". At the next roundabout, take the 2nd exit,
again towards "Perth". At the next roundabout, take the first exit,
towards "Perth" yet again. At the next roundabout (don't worry, this
is the last one!) take the first exit towards "Erskine Bridge". Just
20 yards past this roundabout, turn left up Ballengeich Rd. Turn right at the
Castlecroft sign about 400 yards up the hill.
